Meet the BHP Family
Welcome from Mavis Xu, BA (she/her/hers)

Mavis is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Johns Hopkins University. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with Honors and a minor in Educational Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin. Her academic background, paired with a deep interest in human behavior and emotional well-being, guides her compassionate and holistic approach to mental health care.

Originally from China, Mavis brings a culturally informed perspective to her work, recognizing how identity, family, language, and societal expectations can deeply shape mental health. She believes that everyone deserves a space where they can be fully heard, seen, and supported, especially during times of transition, uncertainty, or emotional pain.
Mavis is particularly passionate about integrating mindfulness and acceptance-based approaches into therapy, helping individuals reconnect with themselves in grounded and compassionate ways. At the same time, she tailors her work to each person’s unique needs and pace, meeting clients where they are with empathy, openness, and respect.

In addition to her clinical training, Mavis enjoys exploring insight through literature, Tarot, and astrology. She is fascinated by the ways we seek meaning through both science and symbolism, and how these tools can support greater self-understanding and personal growth. In her free time, she finds joy in reading, journaling, and connecting with the natural world—practices that help her stay grounded and present in both life and her work with clients.
